The Broken Rack was founded in 1998 by three pool enthusiasts. All had been regulars or employees of Chalkers Emeryville, the legendary upscale billiards room of the 90's. Once Chalkers had gone, the three felt there was a need for a new, high quality pool room; a place where everyone would feel comfortable, with regulation tables and good equipment, with a first class bar, good food and an attractive environment. More than a decade later we believe that The Rack is still "The place to play in the East Bay".
Today, The Broken Rack is owned by Wayne Boucher, one of its original partners, and Jason Kung, its original general manager. Marilyn, Wayne's wife, runs the office and coordinates special events. Wayne's been involved in pool for decades as a player, a pool hall manager and a house pro. Jason brings to the business the perspective of a younger generation of pool player combined with a background in the restaurant and bar industry.
After 11 years, with many long time patrons and staff members, The Broken rack has become a part of the Emeryville community. We strive to combine the characteristics of a quality pool room and a neighborhood bar and grill. We enjoy getting to know our customers, whether pool players or not, and always appreciate meeting first time guests and getting their input as well. If you haven't been to The Broken Rack, please drop by and introduce yourself.
